The story of how the everyday wristwatch came into being is interesting. Did you know, for example, that the first models were invented in the 1800s? At that time, they were a woman’s accessory more than anything else. Men used pocket watches instead.
During World War I, soldiers needed a more convenient option. Imagine readying yourself to climb out of a trench, with a rifle at the ready. Pocket watches no longer cut the mustard for soldiers. This saw them fashioning a crude version of a wristwatch.
The soldiers took the trend home with them, and the rest is history. Since then, technology has improved substantially. Interestingly enough, though, the inner workings of many watches are similar to what they were then.
There are high-tech versions out there, but there are also many simpler models. You’d think that timepieces would go the way of the dodo. You’d be wrong. Even in the smartphone era, this “old-fashioned” tech has distinct advantages:
-
A long battery life: Can you imagine if your smartphone only had to be charged once every two years? That’s how long a good watch battery lasts.
-
It’s more discreet: Do you need to check the time discreetly? What’s easier – checking your wrist or getting your phone out?
-
It can aid productivity: A phone can also help you be more punctual. But every time you look at the screen, there’s a temptation to check your messages, emails, and so on.
-
The ideal men’s accessory: If you work in a conservative environment, you won’t get away with wearing a ton of jewelry. A timepiece, however, can slip under the radar. It’s a classy way to complete your outfit.
-
Versatile: If you choose a simple design, you can wear your timepiece with any outfit.
-
It makes a good family heirloom: Imagine if you keep the phone you’re using now for your son when they grow up. Would they appreciate the outdated piece of tech? Timepieces are a different story, as long as you stick to a timeless design.
-
A good investment: Here, we don’t mean that they appreciate in value. Only that if you stick to a basic model, you’ll be able to use it for years to come. Fashion models look good for a couple of seasons at the most.

Our Designs
The Pioneer
Okay, we’re cheating a little here. The Pioneer costs a bit over $300. But we’re so proud of it that we had to include it. We’ve taken the chronograph and given it a style upgrade. You have the basic stopwatch and second counter in a more contemporary style.

More About Nordgreen
Nordgreen began as a project by two friends. We wanted to find a way to offer luxury for less. In order to do this, we had to make some choices. We could provide high quality or a ton of extra features. But we couldn’t have both.
In the end, we decided to simplify things. We stripped out extraneous features and focused on quality and design. We partnered with Jakob Wagner, one of Europe’s top designers. We asked him to create a range that was simple, elegant, and timeless. And boy did he deliver.
Why Buy from Us?
Here are the things that are most important to us:
-
Outstanding customer service: You are the reason that we’re in business. We can’t stress how much we appreciate your business.
-
Design excellence: After all, what’s life without great style?
-
Craftsmanship: We use high-quality components and then assemble them by hand. Then each piece is thoroughly inspected before it goes out. We’ve also extended the standard industry warranty to a full two years.
-
Value for money: Designer watches can sometimes cost a fortune. We opted to keep our brand more uncomplicated so that you get value for your money.
-
Social responsibility: When you buy from us, you’re doing your part for charity too. We donate a portion of your purchase to one of three registered charities. You choose which to support – education, potable water, or the environment.
What Makes Our Watches Special?
Is it the great design, the high-quality components, or the fair pricing? It’s all of those things combined. Let’s go over what goes into our watches.
Good Batteries
This sounds like a silly thing to brag about, but it’s essential. Our batteries last for at least two years. We could have used cheaper batteries, but that’s not excellent customer service. It’s also not a good idea for the environment.
The Best Movements
The movements are pretty much the guts of the piece. They need to be carefully calibrated for high accuracy. The world’s best manufacturers choose Miyota, and so do we.
Tough Mineral Glass
Or, more specifically, sapphire glass. It’s highly prized for its ability to handle knocks and resist scratches. Nothing else made sense for us.
High-Quality Straps
Another design feature we implemented was interchangeable straps. Buy an extra strap or two, or choose a bundle with a watch and two additional straps. In just a few minutes, you’ve got a brand-new look.
-
High-Grade Stainless Steel: Stainless steel is a classic choice for men. It’s hard-wearing and comes in four different colors.
-
Italian Leather: There’s nothing quite like the warm color and luxurious feel of great Italian leather. You’ll have to nourish it from time to time, but your effort is worthwhile. Leather builds up a lovely patina as it ages.
-
Rubber and Nylon: These are functional materials that are excellent in harsh environments.
-
Vegan Leather: Vegan leather is made from plant matter. If you’re looking for a cruelty-free alternative to the real thing, choose vegan leather. And no one will be able to see the difference.
Water-Resistant Up to 3 Atmospheres
All of our models are built to be water-resistant. We don’t advise dunking your watch in water. A quick dip, however, won’t do it any harm.
